When photography is being selected for a carefully considered interior, the photograph itself is only part of the decision. The scale, orientation, framing, finish and position within the room can all make a difference to how the finished piece works in the space.

That was the approach we took for this luxury holiday home in county Clare, working alongside Grey Gate Interiors and Fiona Brennan of Project Management Interiors, alongside their US based client. 

The brief for this project was to provide a selection of landscape photography of county Clare and Ireland that would complement the interiors and work naturally within the different rooms of the property.

Rather than selecting photographs remotely, we visited the property to see the spaces first-hand.

Starting with the space

Being able to see the property in person gave us both a much better understanding of the project. We could look at the individual rooms, measure the available wall spaces and consider the colour schemes, furnishings and overall feel of the interiors.

From there, we put together a bespoke photography proposal, sharing our advice on photographs alongside the appropriate sizes and finishes for each space.

The client then selected a collection of eight photographs across two different formats: five A2 prints with a mounted presentation in white frames, and three large canvas tray frames, including one bespoke photograph created specifically for the home.

A photograph from close to home

The project included a custom photograph titled 'Seafield Reef', a canvas tray frame with black finish, measuring 1.1 × 0.75m. 

Taken close to the property, this aerial photograph brings an especially strong connection to its surroundings. Rather than choosing a landscape simply because it worked visually within the room, this piece also reflects the location of the holiday home itself.

The photograph was produced to a custom size for the space, allowing its proportions to work with the wall and surrounding interior. This is a good example of how we approach photography for interiors: the image, its connection to the location and the physical space can all be considered together.

The photographs in place

For the Primary bedroom, the brief was a statement piece, complementing the colour palette and coastal views from the room. Given the size of the space, we recommended a  canvas tray frame finish. This is an open-faced floating frame with a 10mm front lip and a 30mm depth, designed to showcase the artwork with a premium "floating" effect.
